ELEGIES are sad, aren't it?

Definition:

A poem or song that expresses sadness, especially for somebody who has died.

Example:

The curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea,
The plowman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Up there is an example elegy by Thomas Gray.

Why is it important in Language Arts?

Elegies express a very sad emotion, mostly tragic, grief, regrets or depression, and usually dedicate for the passed away beloved ones, which helps the author to let out their feelings without keeping that sad emotion inside.
