The rhythmic order of a verse. Meter is when the stresses occur in a regular pattern.
Example:
u / u / u / u / u / Iambic: Shall I compare thee to a summers day
Why is it important in Language Arts?
Meter and rhythm are sharing the same job, to create the beat in the verse, which helps enhancing the interesting part in poetry, especially the emotions of how the author puts the order in.
