METER is not like measuring

Definition:

The rhythmic order of a verse. Meter is when the stresses occur in a regular pattern.

Example:

u / u / u / u / u / Iambic: Shall I compare thee to a summers day

Why is it important in Language Arts?

Meter and rhythm are sharing the same job, to create the beat in the verse, which helps enhancing the interesting part in poetry, especially the emotions of how the author puts the order in.

RHYTHM is like rhyme

Definition:

The sounds of beat in a rhyming poem, it follows the pattern of the stressed and unstressed syllables.

Example:

The wind in her hair
The chair that sat there
Eyes on eyes
Fire and lye
In the river sky

Why is it important in Language Arts?

Rhythm makes beat and creates a tune for a poem, which makes it so much more fun and interesting to read, rhythm also helps make the fun for children to learn poems.

RHYME are fun, no?

Definition:

The repeat of the similar tone of the word more than once.

Example:

Do you like bacon, honey?
I do but it costs money.
Do you like maple syrup, sweetheart?
I do and it's good for body parts!

Rhyme makes rhythm, which creates the fun in poems and helps the readers remember the poem more easily and efficient!

SYMBOL is super necessary

Definition:

A symbol is a place, a person, a thing, or an event that has meaning in itself and stands for something else. In the World, a play, or a poem, symbols can be open and obvious, or mysterious and hard to figure out.

Example:

In 'The Diary of Anne Frank', her diary is the main symbol of the story, which connects to her life and what had happened during the hiding time with her family.

Why is it important in Language Arts?

Symbol helps the readers understand the significance of the special place, person, object or event, understand about the history and why was it chosen to be a symbol. In fictions, the symbol might be a very important part of the author's life and he/she wants to express it through words.

TONE comes from your mouth

Definition:

Feelings about a certain subject, like a person, an object or through questions in poems that are implied for the reader.

Example:

Around me are pirates,

Around pirates are the oceans,

Surrounding us are the tension,

I couldn't move, they'd shoot.

Their captain with an eye-patch and the sailors with angry looks.

I stand alone, I won't care.

I hear the gentle voice, I jump out,

Mommy is calling for cookies!

The tone of the poem above at first is tension, later on humorous.

Why is it important in Language Arts?

Tone helps show the audience what the author was feeling, which leads to the message that the author is trying to show us through lines and words.

SPEAKER talks the talk

Definition:

The poet or the main character in a poem or play's experiences, feelings, thoughts that are told through poems or dialogues.

Example:

With one quick yell, we run away.
With one ugly comment, we only sway.
With one loving word, we don't pray.
With one small hug, we repay.
With one big kiss, we never say,
I love you Mommy, please stay.

The poem's speaker was a kid with siblings that expressed his/her feelings for the Mother.

Why is it important in Language Arts?

The speaker always tells us a story, whether it's about their lives, their feelings for someone or their opinion on something. The speaker can always change the tone, which helps with the mood of the poem or story.

INTERPRETATION is like Sherlock

Definition:

The analysis, finding or explanation about the meaning of literature or art, like a poem or an essay.

Example:

Today’s lessons will help you go ahead in the raceYou are special; you mean the world to me
You are my daughter, a reflection of my entity

Every year, as I watch you grow by my side
No matter what you do, you are my source of pride

The umbilical cord may have been cut but you should know
You are still bound to my soul, wherever you go

Sometimes I am firm and you may think I am wrong
Remember it is easy to give in, but tough to be strong

Sometimes I am strict and you may think it is unfair
But I correct you only because I love and care

I harden my heart and nag, scold and fight
To teach you the difference between the wrong and the right

For soon, the days will pass swiftly all in a whirl
And into a woman will grow my baby girl

Tomorrow when you need inner strength above all

I hope my values will give you the courage to stand tall
I hope that in my teaching you will find tips few

Soon when you strive to make your dreams come true
At a later date, when the real world you have to face

Some day in the future when a mother you will be
From my point of view, the world you will see

For your baby then you will do what is bestTo blend discipline with kindness is every mom’s test
